JAKARTA: The Regional Representatives Council (DPD) has urged Education Minister Muhammad Nuh to delay a plan that state university students be selected for admission on the basis of their National Final Examination (UAN) results.
Sulistiyo, head of the DPD's Committee III overseeing education, religion and people's welfare, said Tuesday the plan had to be discussed with experts and schools before its implementation.
State universities have so far selected most of their students through admission tests.
"It is common to see schools violating procedures just to help their students pass the test, which means the UAN results do not represent the real standards of achievements of these students," Sulistiyo said in a statement.
"If the ministry uses UAN results as the only requirement for admission, this will negatively impact the schools and their students." - JP
