Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration has proposed a suspension of migrant worker placements in Saudi Arabia and Jordan, citing the negligent role of destination governments.
Manpower Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said the proposal was a result of analysis and advice from Indonesian embassies in the two Middle Eastern countries.
“We barely see the role of the governments of the destination countries,” Muhaimin told Antara state news agency on the sidelines of a hearing with the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Muhaimin said the foreign governments considered disputes between employers and their Indonesian workers a private matter.
“We want government-to-government cooperation to deal with the cases,” Muhaimin said.
