SURABAYA: The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) in Perak, Surabaya, has warned people living along East Java's coastal areas to stay away from the beach Wednesday evening due to possible high waves.
BMG officer Muhamad Efendi said his office predicted the waves, which could reach up to 1.6 meters, might occur Wednesday at around 11 p.m.
"They should calm down at around 4 or 5 a.m. on Thursday," he said.
The high tides, he added, were predicted to occur in the southern parts of the province including Pacitan, Blitar and Trenggalek.
Efendi said Indonesia normally experienced high waves four times a year. He said two usually occurred between March and April and the other two between November and December. - JP
