NUSA DUA, Bali: On their final day off before play begins at the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions, top tennis players showed their artistic side for a good cause Tuesday.
All 12 players in the event, as well as tournament reserve Vera Dushevina of Russia, visited Jenggala Ceramics in Jimbaran, Bali. The women took turns at the potter's wheel and then decorated plates.
A pot signed by the players will be auctioned to benefit the SMILE Foundation, which funds surgery to correct facial deformities.
It was the first appearance at an off-court event by Australian Samantha Stosur and Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, who recently arrived from playing the doubles event at the WTA Championship in Doha. Martinez won the doubles with compatriot Nuria Llagostera Vives. - JP
