A 22-member team from the local Search and Rescue Agency in Jayapura, Papua, was deployed to the area where a police-owned Cassa M-28 Skytruck plane had reportedly crashed.

Suyatno, head of the agency, told Antara state news agency on Wednesday that the team had been deployed to Dorman Mountains area in Pass Ilu.

“If it possible, the team will go to the crash site. But if not, they will be posted in Dabra, an area with an airstrip, which is only five minutes flying distance from the crash site,” he said.

The team, he said, brought all necessary equipment, including body bags.

The missing plane lost contact on Monday during a flight from Sentani Airport to Mulia Airport in Puncak Jaya regency.

The police said the plane, purchased brand new in 2004, had only 1,200 flying hours and had just undergone routine maintenance in October.
