Antasari sought 'quick' help: Witness

A witness in the high-profile murder trial involving the anti-graft body KPK's former leader Antasari Azhar said Thursday the defendant had asked him for a help to "finish" a terror plot targeting his family planned by victim Nasrudin Zulkarnaen.

Media tycoon Sigid Haryo Wibisono told a hearing at the South Jakarta District Court that Antasari shared about the terror plot for the first time early in January.

"He said he and his wife had often received phone calls, saying that Antasari had had a sexual affair with another woman," Sigid said.

"He was very angry with it."

According to Sigid, he and Antasari then had several more meetings to discuss the development of the plot.

He said Antasari had told him several times of possible use of violence in "settling" the problem with Nasrudin.

"He said the problem might be resolved sooner with help from thugs," he said.

Antasari, former chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), is currently on trial for allegedly masterminding the murder of Nasrudin, a director in state pharmaceutical company PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran.

Nasrudin was killed in a drive-by shooting in Tangerang earlier this year.

In their indictment, the prosecutors had recounted details of a sexual contact between Nasrudin's unofficial wife Rhani Juliani and Antasari in a room at a South Jakarta hotel in May last year. Nasrudin suddenly rushed into the room and later hounded Antasari's family about the affair.

The prosecutors believed that this had triggered Antasari to have Nasrudin killed, with help from Sigid who provided the financial support and former South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Williardi Wizar who managed the recruitment of executors.
