Asian philosophy conference held in Depok

JAKARTA: The Fourth International Conference of the Asian Philosophical Association (ICAPA) is underway at the University of Indonesia, Depok, West Java.

The three-day conference, which was kicked off on Wednesday, is expected to bring together philosophy experts and institutions from Indonesia, Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Egypt, Japan and India.

Sunardji, deputy rector for research, development and industrial cooperation, said in a written statement the conference, themed: "The Path to Alliance of Civilizations through the Asian Community," would cover a wide range of issues involving different perspectives of contemporary challenges in Asia.

"We must question, and critically build and implement new understandings of the change, with the hope that we can wisely play our part," he said.

The fifth conference is expected to take place in Japan and will focus on global peace.

The third conference took place in Kazakhstan in 2008, followed by the second conference in Korea in 2006 and the first conference in Turkey in 2005. - JP
