JAKARTA: The customs and excise office revealed Wednesday that its officers managed to uncover a liquor smuggling and excise seal forgery syndicate in Pluit, North Jakarta on Oct. 22.

The office's director general, Anwar Suprijadi, said his office seized 17,000 bottles of liquor sealed with fake excise seals.

"The smuggling activities and the excise seal forgery has incurred Rp 4.9 billion in state losses," Anwar told reporters.

According to Anwar, police have named a suspect, known only by his initials A.P.

"Police are questioning one driver and three porters," he said, adding that police were still tracking down an owner of a house believed to be used to store the smuggled liquor. - JP
