IBL tournament to be held despite lack of funding

AKARTA: Despite no support from sponsors due to a lack of funds, two national basketball clubs Pelita Jaya Esia and Garuda Flexi Bandung have agreed to co-host the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) Cup tournament as a warm up for the 2010 IBL season.

"Although our promotor *TVOne* is unable to run the tournament due to lack of funds, we have decided to maintain *the tournament* as it functions as a trial period for clubs prior to the regular season," IBL commissioner chairman Ade Bella Harahap said on Wednesday. He added the tournament has been a routine fixture each year for teams participating in the IBL season.

Ten clubs will participate in the tournament held in Jakarta and Bandung between Nov. 24-28. The best two teams will be taken from each pool to participate in the final four from Dec. 12-13.

"We hope that our promotor can guarantee the availability of major sponsorship for IBL competitions in the future," said Ade Bella. - JP
