The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is questioning lawmaker Tjahyo Kumolo as a witness in an alleged bribery case concerning the selection of the senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) in 2004.

The KPK spokesman Johan Budi SP said the anti-graft body's investigators were still asking for clarification from the legislator as of 1 p.m.

Kompas.com reported that the KPK had declared four people suspects in the case – lawmakers Hamka Yandhu, Dudhie Makmun Murod, Endin SJ Soefihara and former auditor Udju Juhaeri.

Previous questions revealed that Dudhie had denied Tjahyo, who is from the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), played any role in the case.

The case was uncovered when former legislator Agus Condro reported to the KPK he had received Rp 500 million (US$ 50,000) after a selection process which finally appointed Miranda S. Goeltom as the new senior deputy governor. (ewd)
