The resignation of National Police detective chief Com. Gen. Susno Duadji and Attorney Generals' Office (AGO) deputy chief is greeted with open arms by law experts, but they are also reminded that the efforts to unravel the fabrication case to weaken the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) must not stop.

"It has been a tradition in Indonesia, that for the sake of an institution, a number of subordinates must take the fall. Susno and Ritonga must not only become merely scapegoats for the sake of more powerful officials," a legislator at the House of Representatives Commission III on Law and Human Rights, Nasir Jamil from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction, told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.

Nasir also said that investigation on Susno and Ritonga had to continue despite their resignations.

Meanwhile, a law and human rights activist, Nursyahbani Katjasungkana, could not hide her happiness upon learning that Susno and Ritonga were no longer law enforcement officials.

"Thank God, the crocodiles [Susno and Ritonga] finally step down," she said.

Ritonga and Susno were some of the high ranking law enforcement officials mentioned in a tape, revealing a plot to disband the KPK.
