National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso said that National Police chief of detectives Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji had submitted his resignation letter, following a public outcry over his implication in an alleged abuse-of-power case that culminated in a hearing at the Constitutional Court on Monday.
The court session heard controversial recordings of wiretapped telephone conversations containing evidence of an elaborate plot to frame deputy chairmen of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah. Bambang and Susno’s names were mentioned several times in the recordings.
However, Bambang did not explain when or why Susno had resigned.
“We did not take action against him. He resigned, and there will be further processing [of the case]. So we did not dismiss him...,” Bambang said.
Regarding prominent businessman Anggodo Widjojo, who also apparently appeared in the recordings playing a key role in the framing plot, police were continuing to search for incriminating evidence, Bambang added.
Anggodo was being questioned at the National Police headquarters, although he had yet to be officially declared a suspect in the case, he said.
“We will coordinate with the KPK to check the validity of the wiretapped conversations as evidence,” he said.
