BANDUNG: A 24-year-old man was severely wounded when a bomb he made exploded at his home in Cimahi, West Java, police said Thursday.
The police removed the victim, identified by his initials as AZ, from the Cibabat hospital in the city to the Sartika Asih hospital in Bandung on Wednesday night.
The police were also questioning AZ's 57-year-old mother Suningsih, who was present during the accident.
West Java police officer Adj. Comr. Sony Sonjaya said AZ was inspired to make the bomb for personal reasons after watching TV news broadcasts of terrorists.
"He apparently wanted to take revenge against his father's family who had abandoned him, so he assembled the bomb," he added.
West Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Dade Ahmad said the bomb was made using simple materials including matches, pieces of plastic piping, a remote control and five batteries as a detonator.
"The incident had nothing to do with disturbing public security. It's really a personal matter," he said. - JP
