JAKARTA: The city administration warned that the number of dengue fever cases might rise in the coming months.
"Observing data from the last two years, dengue fever began to increase in December and reached its peak in March," Dien Emawati, Jakarta Health Agency head, said at a conference on dengue fever prevention. Dien explained the Aedes Aegypti mosquito population rose when the wet season reached its peak. "Areas covered with stagnant water increase and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes," she said.
Dien added that the agency was preparing a massive fogging campaign this month.
The agency recorded that, as of October, more than 26,500 Jakarta residents were suspected of having contracted dengue fever. The fever claimed 33 lives. - JP
