A member of the fact-finding team investigating the alleged plot to frame antigraft deputies said Friday the House of Representatives hearing about the issue Thursday evening was more a PR exercise for the National Police.
Anies Baswedan, the Paramadina University rector, said dialogue between members of the House’s Commission III with National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri appeared to be one-sided.
Anies asked why the House declared the hearing open to the public when a hearing with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies Chandra M. Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto was closed.
“The media was denied access to the KPK’s summoning [Wednesday] unlike the hearing with the National Police,” Anies told kompas.com. “If the police’s hearing served as a PR exercise, the matter would be exacerbated.”
Bambang said in the hearing, which continued until early Friday morning, the police had enough evidence to charge the KPK deputies with bribery and extortion.
He also said the public had treated the law enforcement institution with bias with regard to the KPK.
