Letter: Parents' responsibility

Although I understand the importance of the issue questioned in your article "Biology and women's destiny" (the Post, Nov. 1), I am appalled by the example of the 12-year-old child quoted here.

As a person born and brought up in Eastern Europe, the last enclave of Catholicism, I may have quite an interesting view on the subject.

In Poland, like in all western countries, having sex with a child who is less than 15 years old is considered a serious crime, punishable by imprisonment and regarded as pedophilia.

A 12-year-old girl is a child who should go to school and learn and who cannot be responsible for their decisions. As far as motherhood and bringing up a child is concerned, the mother is not the only parent, so the father of the child should share the responsibility and participate in bringing up the child.

I was brought up by my dad, who learned to take care of me and to cook and to play and to comb my hair and to make breakfast and accompany me to school. He was the best dad I could imagine and I'm sure that every girl would like to have such a father.

So there is really no difference which one of the parents takes care of a child. I am the best example.
