SURABAYA: East Java Police and customs and excise officers have arrested four Iranian citizens in separate places for alleged drug smuggling.
Two of them were arrested upon arrival Tuesday at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, while the other two were nabbed Wednesday at Tunjungan Plaza and Inna Simpang Hotel in Surabaya.
East Java Customs and Excise Office head Djasman Sutedjo said Thursday the suspects had been using a new and unique method to smuggle methamphetamine into the country.
He said they had soaked towels and bathrobes in the liquid drug.
The seized drugs have an estimated street value of Rp 7.5 billion, police said.
The four suspects are currently being held at the East Java Police headquarters for further investigations. - JP
