Regional govts to lead Newmont stake purchase

Regional governments will lead the purchase of a 14-percent stake at PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT), Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa clarified Friday.
The statement seems to clarify Hatta's earlier statement, stating that state mining firm PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) would lead a consortium to buy the stakes. Antam is likely to be part of the consortium.
"The lead is regional governments. In Tuesday's meeting in my office with the finance minister, state minister for state-owned enterprises and energy and mineral resources minister, the point is we want the process to be accountable," he said.
Hatta added that the purchase would take into consideration the interest of central government, which would be represented by state-owned companies.
The regional governments are Nusa Tenggara Barat province, Sumbawa regency and West Sumbawa regency.
