SURABAYA: The 5
URABAYA: The 5.4-kilometer-long Suramadu bridge, connecting Surabaya and Madura Island, will be closed for three hours on Nov. 29 when it hosts an international 10-kilometer run.
The country's longest bridge will be closed from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. during the event, said East Java Deputy Governor Saefullah Yusuf, who also heads the 10-kilometer Suramadu International Run organizing committee.
"We want to show the Suramadu bridge to the world," he said Thursday.
"We hope it will help create new job opportunities in Madura with the arrival of investors."
Saefullah said State Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng, East Java Governor Soekarwo and other senior officials would join the run, along with athletes from the United States, Kenya, Morocco, Ethiopia, Thailand and Malaysia.
