Jakarta Police's narcotics division confirmed Friday a crystal methamphetamine factory, raided earlier this week in West Jakarta, was run by a newly established intercity drugs syndicate.

"They prepared the raw materials in Jakarta and processed them [into the final product] in Bandung," division head Sr. Comr. Anjan Pramuka Putra told reporters.

On Wednesday,  police arrested two people separately, who were in possession of a total of 10,620 Ecstasy pills and 1 gram of crystal meth. Following information from the suspects, they then raided a house in the Palem Sari complex in Cengkareng Barat and found a total of 11 kilograms of raw ingredients used to make crystal meth.

The following day police raided another house in Bandung, where the ingredients had been scheduled to be sent.

"The syndicate can produce between 2 and 3 kilograms of crystal meth in 10 days," Anjan said, adding they had distributed the Ecstasy and crystal meth to several big cities, including Bandung, Jakarta and Medan.

The confiscated drugs and ingredients were worth a total of around Rp 5 billion (US$530,000)

According to Anjan, the syndicate, which has operated for six months, is masterminded by Iwan Jaja Admaja, a former convict recently released after serving seven years in prison for similar crimes.
