Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators quizzed former
House of Representatives lawmaker Endin Soefihara from the United
Development Party (PPP) Monday as a suspect in connection with alleged
bribery
in the election of the Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor in 2004.
Endin left the KPK building at 3:30 p.m. after a questioning session which began in the morning, Antara state news agency reported.
He insisted that he did not take bribes as he did not vote for Miranda Swaray Goeltom, who eventually was elected the central bank’s second-highest official. “Our party's instruction was to vote against Miranda,” Endin said.
KPK has named Endin, Dudhie Makmun Murod, Hamka Yandhu and Udju Djuhaeri suspects in the case, which evolved around the confession of former Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle lawmaker Agus Condro that he had accepted Rp 500 million (US$53,000) from party leaders for voting for Miranda.
The antigraft commission has also questioned Miranda and several current and former House lawmakers in connection with the case.
