1. National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri (during Thursday night's hearing with the House of Representatives' Commission III):

“We have enough evidence to name Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah as suspects because our key witness, Ari Muladi, testified that he personally handed over the money to the two KPK leaders and several investigators.

“Ari said that he gave Rp 1 billion [US$105,000] to CH [Chandra Hamzah] and Rp 1.5 billion to BS [Bibit Samad Rianto], separately.

“Ari Muladi has never withdrawn his testimony. He made a new statement saying he didn't know the KPK leaders (Chandra and Bibit), but after we tested him with a lie detector we found that he lied in the second testimony. That’s why we are sticking with the first testimony.

“Ari was arrested in Yogyakarta after a 15-day search. He never changed his statement in the dossier, he only added a new statement saying the Rp 6 billion from Anggodo Widjojo was handed over to Chandra and Bibit through Yulianto, not himself.

“In addition, our investigation on the case began with Pak Antasari Azhar’s testimony, saying some KPK leaders were bribed by Anggoro Widjojo. Antasari was the KPK chief, and he must have known what was going on within the institution. That’s why we pursued the case.”

2. Alleged middleman Ari Muladi (after Saturday’s questioning by the fact-finding team):

“What the police chief said was not true. I have withdrawn my first testimony, in which I lied that I had personally given the money to Chandra and Bibit. I apologize to both of them. The police forced me to return to my first testimony every time they questioned me, but I stick to my new testimony that I never met Ade Rahardja, Pak Bibit or Pak Chandra — let alone gave them money. I will never lie again or cause trouble for them.

“The total sum given by Anggodo to me was Rp 5.1 billion. I handed over all the money to Yulianto in the knowledge he would hand over the cash to Ade Rahardja [the KPK deputy for enforcement], who was expected to pass it on to the KPK leaders, but I don’t know if the money was handed over to the KPK leaders.”

3. Former KPK chief Antasari Azhar in his written testimony, used by the police to build the case against Chandra and Bibit (after questioning with the fact-finding team at the weekend):

“The written testimony was initially requested by investigators during the police’s early questioning session. The testimony is from Anggoro; so the first person to say the KPK received bribes was Anggoro. After listening to his testimony, I wasn’t sure of Chandra and Bibit’s guilt in receiving the bribes. I met Ari Muladi, and asked about the details of his handing over the money, but I’m still not convinced.”
