State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said Tuesday that the government apologized for the power crisis that had resulted in blackouts in many parts of the country and promised to address the problem immediately.
“We, I and Energy Minister Darwin Shaleh, on behalf of the government apologize for the power crisis we are facing,” Mustafa said after a meeting on stabilization of power supply held at the Vice Presidential Office.
Vice President Boediono presided over the meeting, which came on the heels of repeated power outages affecting the capital city, Jakarta. State electricity company PLN said an explosion at a transformer at the Cawang power plant had strained the capacity of other plants in Jakarta and its repair work would last until the third week of December.
Mustafa said the government had tried its best to solve the crisis.
“Therefore I have warned the management of PLN against taking it easy, and to solve the problem as soon as possible,” Mustafa said.
He appealed to the public to promote power efficiency and help PLN prevent power theft.
