A legislator from the Golkar Party has urged the Attorney Generals' Office (AGO) to resolve the Century Bank debacle.
The debacle revolves around a suspicious Rp 6.7 trillion (US$710 million) bailout to salvage the bank. The bailout turned out to be much higher than the agreed amount of less than Rp 1 trillion.
"The AGO is the only hope to settle the debacle, because the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) does not have the authority to do so," Bambang Soesatyo said during a hearing with the AGO in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The AGO's reputation has been severely tarnished in recent weeks, after a tape revealed a possible conspiracy between a number of its high-ranking officials and the National Police to weaken the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
