JAKARTA: Corruption Eradica-tion Commission (KPK) investigators on Monday questioned former House of Representatives lawmaker Endin Soefihara of the United Development Party (PPP) as a suspect in the case of alleged bribery behind the election of the Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor in 2004.
Endin left the KPK building at 3:30 p.m. after a questioning session that began in the morning, Antara reported.
He insisted he had not accepted any bribes as he had not voted for Miranda Swaray Goeltom, who was eventually elected as the central bank's second-highest official. "Our party's instruction was to vote against Miranda," Endin said.
The KPK has named Endin, Dudhie Makmun Murod, Hamka Yandhu and Udju Djuhaeri as suspects in the investigation, which was sparked by the confession of former Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker Agus Condro, who said he had accepted Rp 500 million from party leaders for voting for Miranda.
The antigraft commission has also questioned Miranda and some current and former House lawmakers in connection with the case. - JP
