TANGERANG: The Tangerang municipal administration claims it had reduced the number of flood-prone areas from 67 to 23.
Mayor Wahidin Halim said his administration had spent Rp 72 billion (US$7.5 million) from the 2008 budget to build flood mitigation infrastructure.
"We've used the money to build embankments, 86 sluice gates along the Cisadane River, 35 pump houses and 45 other pumps," Wahidin said.
The administration also plans to build water reservoirs in the flood-prone Batu Sari, Pinang and Uwung Jaya subdistricts, he said.
"We've submitted the proposal to the Public Works Ministry, and hope it can finance the construction," Wahidin said.- JP
