Landslides threaten scores of districts in West Java

Kuningan regency administration in West Java has listed 14 districts as “vulnerable" to landslides.

Atik Suhatiati, chief of the social welfare unit at the regency, said Wednesday the administration had issued warnings to residents in the district to be extra-cautious during heavy rains.

Atik explained an extensive dry season had lead some areas to have cracks on the surface of the soil, posing a greater threat of landslide.

The vulnerable districts are Darma, Ciawi Gebang, Cidahu, Cimahi, Maleber, Cibingbin, Ciniru, Ciwaru, Cibeureum, Hantara, Karangkancana, Selajambe, Cilebak, and Subang.

Kuningan was one of areas affected by the 7-magnitude quake which hit the southern areas of the province in September and killed least 79 people, injured more than 1,250, and displaced more than 210,000.
