National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri told his subordinates Saturday that the public was testing the law enforcing institution, which has been implicated in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) debacle.
“The image and pride [of our instituion] is being tested by public opinion, which have doubted the National Police' professionalism in doing its tasks, especially in law enforcement,” he said in speech during a ceremony of the 64th anniversary of the police's Mobile Brigade in Depok, West Java, as quoted by kompas.com.
Bambang said that the public opinion has “buried” the police achievement for the last 64 years.
“This is a challenge we have to face. The police will not give up,” he concluded.
The KPK case involves an alleged conspiracy between a number of high-ranking officers from the National Police and the Attorney General's Office to weaken the KPK by allegedly incriminating two of its deputy chairmen, Chandra M. Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto, in a bribery scandal.
