President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono plans to attend the climate ministerial meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, next month to give a boost to global negotiations to reduce greenhouse gas emission.

Presidential spokesman Dino Pati Djalan said in Singapore on Sunday that in Copenhagen, the President would try to keep alive the Bali Road Map to achieve a new global climate pact to replace the Kyoto Protocol.

The Bali Road Map is a result of the environmental ministerial meeting in Bali in 2007, charting the routes to a new world climate pact in Copenhagen.

"He (Yudhoyono) will attend Copenhagen (meeting) to give political and moral supports," Dino was quoted by Antara as saying on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

Observers and officials are both skeptical that the Copenhagen meeting would result in any agreement, saying that the divide between the United States and China is still too large to bridge.
