SMS: Frequent blackouts

A- A A+

Your comments on the frequent blackouts in Jakarta and its surrounding cities due to the failure of the state-owned electricity company PLN to supply power to the area.

The frequent blackouts are happening because we are suffering from a shortage of energy. But it's a fact that we export energy to other countries. So who is to blame?

PLN needs to expand its energy resources. As a state-owned company, PLN needs to act transparently and professionally. Handing out compensation to customers affected by blackouts is a control mechanism to make sure the company will do better in the future.

A temporary breakdown of PLN equipment which causes disruption of power supply is a tolerable technical problem. Breakdowns at many different substations at the same time resulting in regular long-lasting blackouts, equates to gross negligence by PLN management. Clearly they don't implement a sound and regular maintenance, repair and replacement schedule.

Therefore customers who suffer losses should be entitled to claim compensation from the company.

PLN needs to carry out continuous upgrading, repair and maintenance. At the same time, customers should prepare themselves for any blackouts. We hope the problem can be fixed soon.

PLN isn't acting professionally. Its customers deserve compensation because they've suffered losses.

The state monopoly over the current electric energy service shows no profit as indicated by the outrageous announcement of the infamous rolling blackouts! Is there no other way to produce uninterrupted electricity with guaranteed service? Let us democratically allow investors to take over this ailing business in anticipation of foreign direct investment in Indonesia.

We as PLN customers deserve compensation for our losses. However, if PLN provides handouts to all customers, it will go bankrupt in no time. Where are the intellectuals in this country who can help us get out of this circle of frustration?

Replace all of the top PLN management, their performance is absolutely poor and has become intolerable.

As a state institution, PLN should provide the best service to its customers. We the people always manage to pay our monthly fees, but the company fails to deliver good service. What's wrong with PLN management?

Until PLN is made responsible for any losses affecting its customers due to frequent blackouts, their management will continue to treat customers unfairly. Planning is the key - including contingencies for malfunctions.
