JAKARTA: Provincial authorities will increase the number of participants in the national transmigration program from 100 families to 200 families starting next year.
They will also cooperate with the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry in developing urban transmigration, in contrast to the rural concept that has been applied in the past, kompas.com reported.
The new concept will see that families migrating to a new location enjoy an urban environment with various facilities to ensure their comfort, enabling them to start their own businesses.
Deded Sukandar, head of the Jakarta Manpower and Transmigration Agency, said next year's participants would be given a house, 2 hectares land for farming and one year of financial assistance. - JP
