A witness in the murder trial of former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar said Sr. Comr. Wiliardi Wizar had asked him for help to drop the police's investigation into his involvement in the case.
In a hearing at the South Jakarta District Court, Sr. Comr. M. Iriawan, former Jakarta Police chief detective, said Wiliardi requested the waiver when he visited the former South Jakarta Police chief in detention on April 30.
"You're my friend, aren't you? Why don't you help me?" Iriawan quoted Wiliardi.
When he asked Wiliardi what he should do to help him, Iriawan said Wiliardi told him to "cut out" any information in the dossiers containing testimonies by two other defendants in the case, Jerry Hermawan Lo and Edo,
"Of course I couldn't do that," said Iriawan, who was Wiliardi’s classmate at the Police Academy.
Jerry is a businessman who allegedly hired hit men for the murder, while Edo is one of the alleged assassins.
According to Iriawan, Jerry and Edo, who had been arrested earlier, informed the police about Wiliardi’s involvement in the murder.
Last week, Wiliardi stunned everyone with his testimony, saying he had been coerced by police investigators to fall in line with a plot to frame Antasari, who is currently on trial for plotting the murder of Nasrudin Zulkarnaen, a former director of state-owned pharmaceutical company PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran.
Among the officers Wiliardi mentioned were Iriawan and former National Police deputy chief detective Insp. Gen. Hadiatmoko.
