Denpasar to host village competition

DENPASAR: The Denpasar administration has kicked off a village competition to preserve centuries-old religious and traditional customs.

Denpasar Cultural Office head Ketut Mardika said Tuesday the role of the traditional village was key in maintaining the island's religious and social harmony.

"Balinese traditional society now faces a tough challenge from rapid changes in social and technological development," he said.

He added it was important to adapt without abandoning the old traditions and customs. - JP
