Thieves broke into noted Muslim cleric Yusuf Mansur’s house in Ketapang, Tangerang, early Wednesday stealing Rp 500 million (US$53,000).
Cipondoh Police chief Insp. Sukarna said Hendrik, Yusuf’s younger brother, reported the theft to the police Wednesday morning.
Yusuf and his family were in Bali when the burglars stole valuables worth Rp 50 million and Rp 450 million in cash from the house.
Sukarna suspected people who knew Yusuf were involved in the theft. Police found no damage to the house.
“Several people living in and around the house said the house was never locked,” he said.
The police are waiting for Yusuf to return to Tangerang.
