Two high-ranking police officers told the South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday that they had never placed witness Sr. Comr. Wiliardi Wizard under duress to make a false dossier to frame former antigraft leader Antasari Azhar.
Former National Police deputy chief detective Insp. Gen. Hadiatmoko said he met Williardi on April 28 to check police reports alleging Wiliardi's role in the murder of Nasruddin Zulkarnaen, a director of state pharmaceutical company PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran.
"I showed him the photos of Jerry *Hermawan Lo, a businessman who allegedly recruited the hit men* and Edo *Eduardus Ndopo, one of the assassins* and asked if he recognized them," Hadiatmoko told the court.
"But he said no. If he had said yes, I would have ordered the *Jakarta Police* detectives to arrest him immediately," Hadiatmoko added.
Wiliardi, the former South Jakarta Police chief, stunned the public last week with his statement in a court hearing that he had been pressurized by a number of high-ranking police officers to fall in line with an alleged plot to frame Antasari.
He identified Hadiatmoko and former Jakarta Police chief detective Sr. Comr M. Iriawan among them.
Hadiatmoko also said he did not attend Wiliardi's questioning sessions, which took place at the Jakarta Police headquarters, refuting Wiliardi's testimony that his wife had witnessed Hadiatmoko approaching him to sign the dossier prepared by police investigators.
Antasari, the former chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), is currently on trial for allegedly plotting the murder of Nasrudin, who was killed in a drive-by shooting.
In their indictment, prosecutors alleged Antasari had been having an affair with Nasruddin's third wife, Rhani Juliani. They claimed Nasruddin had found out about the affair and later harassed Antasari's family, which they said led to Antasari arranging to have Nasruddin killed.
It was reported that Antasari was assisted by businessman Sigid Haryo Wibisono, who allegedly provided money, and Wiliardi, who allegedly contacted the hit men.
Hadiatmoko said the police knew about Wiliardi's involvement in the murder from Jerry and Edo, who had been arrested earlier.
Iriawan claimed that Wiliardi had asked for his help in dropping the police investigation into his involvement in the case.
"You're my friend, aren't you? Why don't you help me?" Iriawan, Wiliardi's classmate at the Police Staff College, quoted Wiliardi as saying when he visited the defendant in jail on April 30.
When he asked Wiliardi how he could help him, Iriawan claimed Wiliardi had told him to remove any references in Jerry and Edo's dossiers which could link him to the murder.
"Of course I refused," said Iriawan, currently the National Police's deputy director for transnational crimes.
In addition to Hadiatmoko and Iriawan, the court also heard from other police witnesses, including Adj. Sr. Comr. Nico Afinta, Adj. Sr. Comr. Daniel Tifaona and Adj. Sr. Comr. Tornagogo Sihombing.
All of them were involved in Williardi's questioning and claimed they never asked Wiliardi to sign any fabricated dossier.
