Bogor to require workers, students to wear batik

BOGOR: Bogor municipality is planning to require all civil servants and students to wear batik starting next year.

"We plan to impose the ruling next year. All civil servants and students from elementary through to high school will be obliged to wear batik with Bogor-style motifs," Eddy S. Warsa, an aide to the mayor, said Wednesday.

"This policy will help create local awareness of Bogor's batik industry," he said.

Unesco has added batik to its list of humanity's intangible cultural heritage. - J
