A Depok police officer will face justice for violating arrest procedure that resulted in the death of a gambler in Depok earlier this week.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said the decision had been made after the city police’s internal affairs division completed investigating 10 Depok police officers for excessive use of force in a raid Tuesday.

“Nine [of the officers] will face disciplinary sanction while the other officer will be brought to court,” he said.

A group of 10 Depok Police officers raided Tuesday an uninhabited house in Limo, Depok, on Tuesday evening, arresting several minivan drivers for allegedly gambling on the premises.

During the raid, one of the officers shot driver Subagyo for “trying to escape”. Subagyo died on the way to the hospital.

Witnesses, most of them friends of the victim, said the shooting was completely unwarranted since the house they had raided only one exit, which the police had already secured.
