Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Gen. Djoko Santoso sent 1,125 soldiers Thursday off on a UN peacekeeping mission to South Lebanon.
The troops will replace the Indonesian peacekeeping force that leaves the strife-torn area after one year's international duty.
The replacement troops, comprising mostly infantry personnel, will serve for a year after undergoing several months of training.
Indonesian peacekeeping forces in Lebanon are the third-biggest contingent after France and Italy. The TNI has also sent a warship to the Middle Eastern country as part of the UN mission.
Indonesia’s involvement in UN peacekeeping forces dates back to 1957, when it dispatched over 550 troops to Egypt.
