An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook the West Papua capital of Manokwari at 6:07 a.m. Jakarta time on Friday. There were no injuries or damages reported.
The epicenter of the quake was located about 57kilometers northeast of the town at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the sea floor.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency did not issue a tsunami warning.
Manokwari is among the regions of Indonesia most prone to earthquakes. In October, two earthquakes, measuring 6 and 6.1 on the Richter scale, jolted the town, and caused panic but no fatalities were reported.
