JAKARTA: For some musicians, it takes many songs to reach the hall of fame. For pop band ST12, a remake of an old song is enough to take them on a tour of several cities in Asia.
“A Malaysian label asks us to perform the old hit. Search was legendary and we just modernize ‘Isabella’ a bit,” said band drummer Ilham Febry, as quoted by newsportal kapanlagi.com on Wednesday.
“Isabella,” a one-hit wonder from Malaysian band Search, reappeared in the Asian music scene earlier this year. ST12 went regional with it, by singing it in Hong Kong recently and scheduling it for another tour in Singapore next month. The hit propelled ST12 into fame since earlier last year as the Malay pop trend regained its popularity among Indonesians.
“We’re just proud to be able to work on a popular song. While being creative, we can also bridge the differences [between Asian countries],” Febry added. ST12 will be touring in several other Asian cities, but still waiting for confirmation, he explained.
“We are also thinking of performing a Chinese song [for the tour]. It’s more or less the same as a Malay song. You just wait for our little surprise.” — JP
