YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Police chief Brig. Gen. Sunaryono has said that an explosion that occurred at the Medistra drugstore was caused by chemicals and had nothing to do with terrorism.

"Based on our investigation into the accident, we can conclude that an *accidential* chemical reaction is the cause of the explosion, not a bomb or other terrorist actions," Sunaryono said on a visit to the site of the explosion, Thursday.

He added his office was still waiting for a forensic laboratory check from Semarang to find out whether the chemicals had expired.

The police are still questioning some witnesses, including managers of the store and the owners of a number of food kiosks located near the store. Due to the explosion, three people - Yaco Lanang, Yohanes Dwi Subagyo and Dyah L.N. - were injured and taken to a nearby hospital. All three were riding motorcycles past the shop when the incident took place. - JP
