Yogyakarta city police announced Friday that an explosion at a drug store, which damaged the building and injured three people, on Thursday was caused a gas leak.
Adj. Sr. Comr. Sudarmanto, the city police deputy chief, said that initial investigations did not found any traces of explosives or chemicals which may lead to explosion.
He said that the police found a 12-kilogram gas tank, which may have leaked, inside the store.
Gas leak inside the relatively small and crowded store, along with a possibility of electricity short circuit, may have lead to the explosion, Sudarmanto said.
“Of 12 witness we have questioned, a store employee said that the gas tank had leaked but it has been repaired three days ago,” he said.
The police have yet to name any suspect in the possible neglect case.
