I am writing as a reaction to my shock and lack of thought or sympathy shown by SCTV in the episode of Cinta Fitri this evening. I am led to believe Cinta Fitri is one of the more popular sinetron (TV soap operas) shown on SCTV?
The episode consisted of a mock earthquake, where one of the characters is shown to be injured and struggling to remove herself from a damaged building in which she is trapped.
With all the news coverage, the number of recent earthquakes, and certainly the number of victims who have lost their lives to these horrible tragedies, out of respect for families and relatives who have lost their livelihoods, wouldn't you think that SCTV would have a little common decency/courtesy/respect for those watching who actually lost family and loved ones, and not air what maybe a horrific reminder for some people?
I am not a particular fan of sinetron as such and, this certainly has not done anything to help that. In fact, this has only helped to highlight the senselessness and sheer lack of respect for real tragedy, never mind the apparent struggle by the scriptwriters of this program to find decent content.
What is next, I wonder? I am sure if I continue to watch this network they may also be appealing for support to help the victims of Padang. Now wouldn't that be hypocritical!
