Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie announced Saturday a target for the once dominant party to win at least 30 percent of votes in the 2014 General Election.
Aburizal, speaking during the party's regional consensus summit in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan on Friday evening, was asking party executives and cadres to work hard for the target.
He said he was planning to implement a strategy in which the party would have 125 cadres in every village in the country, and each of the cadre could garner three more cadres.
“[This way] Golkar can earn at least 40 million votes or around 30 percent during the 2014 election,” he said.
From the early 1970s, Golkar had dominated the general elections by gaining more than 60 percent of votes. However, its popularity dropped to under 25 percent in 2004 and declined to 14.45 percent in 2009.
