National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri has submitted to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono the police force’s response to the recommendations of a president-appointed inquiry team investigating an alleged conspiracy to frame leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Deputy National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Sulistyo Ishak said the one of the police chief’s staff submitted the document to presidential staff at Yudhoyono’s private residence in Cikeas, in the West Java regency of Bogor, at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
“The document is confidential. It was drafted by a team under supervision of the National Police chief,” Sulistyo said.
He said the police would wait for the President’s response, which is expected to be announced Monday.
The presidential fact-finding team recommended the police and the AGO halt investigations into alleged bribery, blackmail and abuse of power implicating suspended KPK deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Riyanto and Chandra Mara Hamzah, citing a lack of solid evidence.
The team also called for internal reforms within the law enforcement agencies; the eradication of case brokers; and the launching of a thorough investigation into detective chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji’s role in the Bank Century scandal.
Both the National Police and the AGO have insisted that the case against Bibit and Chandra be resolved in court.
