At least one passenger died while another 178 passengers were rescued after the ship KM Dumai Express 10 sank outside Balai Karimun Harbor, Riau, on Sunday.
AKBP Yassin, head of Riau Water Police, told kompas.com that one child had been found dead. All injured passengers, he added, had been rushed to nearby local health centers.
Some ships are still searching for passengers who had not yet been accounted for, Yassin said.
The ship was carrying more than 200 people when it was struck by a strong wave on its way from Batam to Dumai on Sunday morning. (ewd)

I'm sorry for the tragic loss of life, and my heart goes out to the families and friends of those who were lost. There have been several accidents involving these ferries in Indonesia, I hope that the government can find a way to enforce safety regulations, and hopefully be able to prevent this type of disaster in the future. I'm happy so many were saved, but the loss of life is still too much.
