A search and rescue team is looking for passengers of ship KM Dumai Express 10, which sank in Tukong Iyu waters, Karimun regency on its way from Batam to Dumai, Riau Islands Sunday morning.

Officials from the Tanjung Balai Karimun seaport and Navy took two ships and went to the site to investigate.

Antara reported that the ship departed from Sekupang Batam seaport at 7: 30 a.m. with 213 passengers on the ship.

Tanjung Balai Karimun domestic seaport chief Cendra Nawazir said Sunday the ship did not stop at the port despite rough conditions.

“We are deploying a speed boat belonging to the transportation agency to rescue passengers,” Cendra said. (ewd)
