The Constitutional Court is scheduled to read its verdict on Wednesday on a judicial review of an article of the 2002 Law on Corruption.

Antara state news agency has reported that the court will begin a hearing on the review at 1p.m.

The review was filed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspended deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah. They claimed article 32 of the law violates the presumption of innocence principle, which is stipulated in national and international constitutions.

The article regulates that the KPK leaders must be dismissed from their positions if they become defendants in any criminal cases.

Bibit and Chandra are currently suspects in the alleged abuse-of-power and extortion cases.
The National Police have accused the pair of having received Rp 2. 5 billion (US$ 250,000) from graft suspect Anggoro Widjojo to halt a KPK investigation into a graft case at the Forestry Ministry (also involving Anggoro).

They are also suspected of having misused their authority when imposing and lifting travel bans on Anggoro and businessman Joko Tjandra. (ewd)
