Police nabbed big-scale gambling bankers

SURABAYA: East Java Police have arrested 10 illegal-gambling bankers in six regencies and municipalities across the province, a police officer said.
Head of the police's general crime unit Adj. Sr. Comr. Anom Widodo said the bankers were arrested during a series of operations conducted between mid October and mid November in Surabaya, Malang, Pasuruan, Kediri, Bondowoso and Tuban.
He said the bankers had a monthly revenue of between Rp 25 million and Rp 100 million. They conducted illegal gambling via text messaging and facsimile," Anom told reporters on Friday.
He added the bankers would be charged with Article 303 of the Criminal Code and the 1974 Gambling Law, which carried a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment. - JP
