President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday afternoon held a meeting with some ministers and high-ranking officials ahead of his announcement in relation to an alleged criminalization against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Tempointeraktif.com has reported that the president started the meeting at 4 p.m, at the Presidential Palace.

Among those attending are Head of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) Hadi Purnomo, Police Chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri and the Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar.

Earlier in the day, the president also invited the anti-graft body leaders to discuss his final stance on the case.

None of the leaders gave any statements to the awaiting journalists, however.

Last week, the presidential fact-finding team suggested the National Police and the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to halt their investigations into the alleged criminal cases involving the KPK suspended deputy chiefs Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah, citing lack of evidence.

The police have accused both Bibit and Chandra of having misused their powers when imposing and lifting travel bans on graft suspect Anggoro Widjojo and businessman Joko Tjandra.

They are also suspected to have received Rp 2. 5 billion (US$ 250,000) so as the anti-graft body might cease its investigation into an alleged graft case at the Forestry Ministry that involves Anggoro.

The president is scheduled to announce his decision tonight. (ewd)
